About

What is EvilKitchen.ca all about anyways?

First, I suppose I should clear up where the domain name comes from.  EvilKitchen is actually an anagram of my name, Kevin Leitch.  I went with the .ca domain for two reasons:

  1. I’m Canadian and .ca felt a bit patriotic
  2. EvilKitchen.com was taken

I have a few other websites, one of which is KevinLeitch.com.  I’ve had it up and running in some form or another since 2000, but I think I got tired of it and needed a fresh start so I came up with the idea of this new site.  There’s quite a large gallery over there still, but most of it is from my point & shoot days.  Not that there’s anything wrong with that of course.  I’ve hung on to the old site for archival reasons, as well as to keep my @kevinleitch.com email addresses.

This site is more or less a photo blog.  Predominantly pictures from my current place of residence (which happens to be London, UK for the time being), but also photos of the not infrequent traveling I do.  From time to time there are posts that have nothing to do with photography, but they’re very few and far between judging by my archives.

I shoot with all Canon equipment and have included a list of my bodies & lenses at the end of this page for those of you who are curious about that sort of thing.  I’ve made sure to leave the EXIF details intact in all of my photos, so you’re more than welcome to go nosing around if you want to see things like shutter speeds and aperture values.

I have a fairly wide photographic interest, but lately I’ve been leaning towards creating large panoramic images as well as HDR city-scape photos and now light painting.  I’d like to get more into people photography and took a course with Ross Perkins in the summer of 2008 to further those goals but haven’t had an opportunity to do much since.  It is one of my future goals however.

Equipment List

  • Bodies
    • Canon Powershot G9
    • Canon Digital Rebel XT/350D
    • Canon 1D
    • Canon 1D Mark IV
  • Lenses
    • Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 L USM
    • Canon TS-E 24mm f/3.5 L
    • Canon EF 24mm f/1.4 L II
    • Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM
    • Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM
    • Canon EF 85mm f/1.2 L II USM
    • Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro

There’s also a frightening array of camera accessories that help to weigh my bag down including flashes, radio triggers, light stands, tripods, filters and memory cards.  I sometimes wonder if I enjoy collecting the gear more than the photography itself, but then I don’t find myself going over lenses for hours at a time so I’m pretty sure it’s still all about the images.

If you need to contact me for any reason, kevin@evilkitchen.ca is probably the best way.
