Vancouver Visit

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

So I just got back from a quick holiday to Vancouver where I surprised* Elle for Valentines Day. It was nice to be back in the motherland even if it was only for a short visit. I miss things like friendly shop keepers, beef jerky, inexpensive meals, and being able to leave a bag unattended without the police & bomb squad getting called in.

* she emailed me the day I was flying to Canada and got my out of office reply saying I’d be gone for a week, so she was aware that something was up.

The rest of the Vancouver photos are here.

Archery with 8th Day

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

I brought Robert along to an 8th day outing this eve for a bit of archery with the folks from 2020 Archery. It was a blast, and I believe I won the little showdown Robert and I had (by a healty margin if I do say so myself).

Anyways, I took the camera along (of course) but didn’t learn many of the peoples names so there are a few blanks…

Chinese New Year

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

I spent the morning watching the (rather short) Chinese New Year parade and then wandered around Trafalgar Square, up to Leicester Square and into Chinatown with camera in tow.  I think a few turned out, but if nothing else I learned where not to stand next year.

Club Fencing – 06/02/2008

Friday, February 8th, 2008

Since creating this site a couple of weeks ago I’ve been trying to haul my camera pretty much everywhere I go, but it seems to end up at the fencing club more than anywhere else.

I did try playing with some new angles this time, and even got a few from the upper level that turned out alright. I may not get as many keepers with this new lens as it’s sort of slow to focus, but I’m really pleased with the ones that do turn out.

As usual, the rest of the images can be found here.

Mountain Biking in Wales

Monday, February 4th, 2008

Ok, so they’re not really “mountains” per se, but the hills of the Afan Forest are steep enough to get you huffing & puffing on the way up, and your heart racing on the way back down.

It was my first outing with the 8th Day Adventure Sports Club, and about 25 of us descended on the L&A club in Port Talbot for the weekend. They’re a great group of people on and off the mountain, I’ve already joined the club and am looking forward to the next outing!

The rest of the photos from the weekend are all here.
