Clockwork Carnage

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

After last years Mutiny on the Mountie event, we all knew we’d have to go back to watch another roller derby event.  As the league is progressing, they’ve now divided up the girls into a few teams and at Clockwork Carnage it was the Ultraviolent Femmes vs. the Steam Rollers.

In addition to crew that came along last year, a few of my photographer friends from POTN came along for the unique (and challenging) experience of shooting a roller derby.  There are quite a few of their shots here, as well as on the Roller Girls forum here.

Incidentally, I don’t know who does the flyers for their matches, but they’re all awesome!

Here are a few of my shots from the day, and the rest are in the gallery.

POTN Covent Garden Meet

Monday, January 5th, 2009

I spent my Sunday afternoon wandering around the Covent Garden area with Mitesh, Neal and Tyla taking a few photos. I don’t think it was a particularily inspired day, but there were a few good shots to be had.

We ran into some tripod police at Sommerset House, but he was actually really nice and let me take a couple of shots before moving us along. Then while taking some shots of the ice skaters we were approached by another security guard and requested to fill out some waivers stating we wouldn’t sell any of the photos we’d taken there. Not that we could without several dozen model releases from the people there, but we signed anyways to keep them happy (and the girl was a Canon shooter herself, so we chatted for a bit).

The most important lesson I learned from the day was that I can NEVER move back to Canada. It was hovering around 0°C and I was freezing! Toque, gloves and warm socks couldn’t keep my extremities from going numb so I can’t see how I could ever cope with the regular -20 weather of home.

Anyways, a couple of photos from the day and the rest are in the gallery.

Scotney Castle

Monday, November 10th, 2008

A few of us POTN folks headed out to Scotney Castle this weekend for a bit of a photo shoot.  It was a gorgeous area with a really cool Castle ruin on a small island, and the last of the autum colours will still hanging on which made for some great shooting opportunities.

At the moment, I’m really unhappy with the colour of my new monitor and have ordered a calibration tool which should get here this week.  I’ve posted the photos from the weekend already, but I will likely redo them all as they all look very dark and washed out when not viewed on my overly bright and red-casted desktop.

POTN SE UK Meetup

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

A rather large group of guys (15? 16 maybe?) from the Photography on the Net forums descended on Canary Wharf for a day long photography outing.

It was a blast to get out with other photogs for the day to see some of the different styles and lens choices people were using. There are some great shots turning up on the message board in a thread dedicated to the day. Check em out!

Here are a couple of mine that turned out alright, and the rest are here.
