Double Trouble

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

Another great night out provided by the lovely London Rollergirls.  This time it was a double header event with the London teams hosting competitors from Leeds & Birmingham.

The final scores weren’t all that pretty for the visiting teams, but it was an entertaining evening none the less.  A couple of shots from the night, and more in the gallery!

G20 Arrests

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

I choose to work from home today with the intention of avoiding all of the riots protests going on in the City of London.  Little did I know that the protests would be brought to me.

Around 11 I heard a fair bit of commotion behind my flat so I had a quick look outside to see a few police vehicles in addition to what looked like an armored personnel carrier.  My first assumption was that the police were organizing and getting ready to move into the city.

It turns out, the armored vehicle belonged to a group known as the Space Hijackers (a name I didn’t get until I read their intro page).  The police had pulled them behind my humble little flat to question them, inspect their vehicle, and in the end, arrest them all for impersonating police officers (or simply possessing police gear, I’m not clear on which).

Obviously, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to take a few shots from my high vantage point and then a few more from street level.

Skiing in Italy

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

Robert, Victoria, Min and I left work early Thursday evening to hop on board the Stansted Express (complete with self supplied champagne and mini-cakes) to catch our Ryanair flight to Turin.  From there, it was a sleepy transfer to Valle d’Aosta and the Pila ski resort.  We had some amazing spring skiing on Friday.  Sunny, empty slopes and plenty of runs to keep us all entertained (even if Min & I did get a bit lost at one point).  Day two…well, we got a lot of fresh snow on day two!  The visibility was sub-par however, but at least it kept the runs empty.

As always, the rest of the snap shots are in the gallery.

Clockwork Carnage

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

After last years Mutiny on the Mountie event, we all knew we’d have to go back to watch another roller derby event.  As the league is progressing, they’ve now divided up the girls into a few teams and at Clockwork Carnage it was the Ultraviolent Femmes vs. the Steam Rollers.

In addition to crew that came along last year, a few of my photographer friends from POTN came along for the unique (and challenging) experience of shooting a roller derby.  There are quite a few of their shots here, as well as on the Roller Girls forum here.

Incidentally, I don’t know who does the flyers for their matches, but they’re all awesome!

Here are a few of my shots from the day, and the rest are in the gallery.

Czech Fashion Shoot

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

I’ve finally gotten around to making a quick post about the course I took in July.  It was a week long outing with Ross Perkins of AClassPhotos, which encompassed a lot of different things.  Lots of off camera lighting like I was hoping, but also posing models, location scouting and a healthy dose of photoshop training.

It was a great trip as well as a great learning experience.  Prague & Brno are really cool cities and I’m pretty sure you could spend your whole life there and not run out of places to shoot.  Plus, it’s always nice to be able to get out in a city with big cameras, lighting stands & gear and not get chased off by the police or security guards.  Some days, London can really suck for things like that.

Those are a few of my favourite photos from the week…the rest can be found here.
